Troops of Operation Hadin Kai recorded another success during a coordinated Borno operation after recovering a surveillance drone from suspected ISWAP terrorists.
Troops stationed at Forward Operating Base Izge, alongside volunteer forces, carried out a fighting patrol in the Izge axis of Borno State. During the patrol, they recovered an ultra-light drone used for reconnaissance.
Security sources said the encounter happened around 11:30 a.m. on December 30 in the Pridang general area. Troops came into contact with suspected ISWAP fighters attempting to conduct surveillance.
Troops Force ISWAP Fighters to Abandon Drone
The terrorists planned to deploy the drone to monitor troop movement and civilian activity. However, troops responded swiftly and engaged them with superior firepower.
As a result, the ISWAP fighters fled the area in disarray and abandoned the drone. Troops later suspected that some of the fleeing attackers suffered gunshot wounds.
After the clash, troops combed the area carefully. They recovered the surveillance drone along with its complete accessories.
Troops Arrest ISWAP Logistics Suspect in Damasak
In a separate operation, troops of 5 Brigade, Operation Hadin Kai, worked with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to arrest a suspected ISWAP logistics supplier in Damasak, Borno State.
Security operatives intercepted the suspect, Makinta Bukar, while he attempted to exit Damasak town through the Walada international border into bush routes. Troops carried out the arrest at about 6:15 p.m. on December 28.
During a search, operatives recovered two Android phones, a power bank, a small solar panel, an MP3 device, a torchlight, a blanket, a sleeping mat, food items, and ₦4,500 in cash.
Military Maintains Pressure on Terror Networks
Preliminary findings showed that the suspect hails from Gamari village in Niger Republic. Troops placed both the suspect and recovered items in the custody of the 5 Brigade Provost Company.
The military said the operations show sustained efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt terrorist logistics, surveillance, and cross-border movement across the North-East.
