Expect Reliable Power Supply in 2026 — Adelabu

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians to expect a more reliable power supply in 2026, saying the Federal Government has made electricity stability a top priority.

Adelabu gave the assurance in his New Year message, released on Friday in Abuja. His Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, conveyed the message in a statement.

Government Targets Grid Stability and Expansion

According to Adelabu, the government will focus on continuity and renewed momentum in the power sector. He said efforts will centre on improving grid stability and expanding transmission infrastructure nationwide.

“Looking ahead, our focus remains unshakable: to deliver reliable, accessible and sustainable electricity to power our homes, industries and dreams,” the minister said.

He added that the ministry would strengthen collaboration with Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) to improve service delivery and ensure metering initiatives reach more communities.

Light Up Nigeria, Renewables to Drive Growth

Adelabu said the Light Up Nigeria initiative will remain a major pillar of the government’s power strategy in 2026. He explained that the programme targets industrial clusters and agricultural hubs to support economic growth and job creation.

The minister also said the government would intensify investment in renewable energy. According to him, solar and hydropower projects will help provide electricity to underserved and off-grid communities.

Minister Reviews Power Sector Gains in 2025

Reflecting on 2025, Adelabu described the year as one of groundwork and steady progress despite sector challenges.

He said the ministry recorded improvements in national grid stability. He credited the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), also known as the Siemens project, with helping to reduce frequent grid collapses.

“As Phase One of the PPI continues, Nigerians will see a stronger grid that makes disruptions less frequent,” he said.

Adelabu Calls for Collective Support

The minister thanked Nigerians for their resilience and support, noting that collaboration remains essential to achieving power sector reforms.

“The journey ahead requires a united front,” Adelabu said, urging governments, communities, the private sector, and citizens to work together.

He also encouraged Nigerians to protect power infrastructure and adopt energy-efficient practices. Extending greetings to residents of Oyo State, Adelabu expressed optimism that 2026 would deliver measurable progress in electricity supply.
