Police operatives in Delta State have rescued a woman who was abducted from her residence in Sapele.
The victim was reportedly ambushed by armed men while attempting to drive into her compound along Eko Amukpe Road. According to the Delta State Police Command, the incident was reported to officers at the Sapele Division through a distress call. The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the gunmen fired several shots into the air before taking the woman into a nearby bush, however, police operatives immediately mobilised patrol and surveillance teams after receiving the report.
At the scene, officers recovered expended AK-47 ammunition shells believed to have been used during the attack. The police then launched a bush-combing operation in collaboration with local vigilantes to locate and rescue the victim.
Edafe said sustained pressure from the security teams forced the kidnappers to abandon their captive and flee. The woman was subsequently rescued unharmed and reunited with her family.
Meanwhile, police operatives are continuing efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects. However, the command has not disclosed whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
