NDLEA Arrests 68 Drug Traffickers, Seizes 7.5 Tonnes in Edo

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency arrested 68 suspected drug traffickers and seized more than 7,531 kilogrammes of narcotic substances throughout August 2026.

The 68 suspects comprised 34 males and 34 females, a distribution Ofoyeju described as evidence that substance abuse cuts across gender lines without distinction.

The seizures included 7,524.83 kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa. This figure constitutes both those obtained directly from suspects and those from farms. Additional substances seized include 5.3311 kilogrammes of psychotropic substances, 0.0668 kilogrammes of methamphetamine, and 34.8 litres of codeine syrup.

The command also destroyed four cannabis farms covering a combined area of 2.573331 hectares across two local government areas. Two farms were dismantled in Igbanke Forest, while the other two were located in Ukaro Forest and Ewe Forest. The estimated yield destroyed across the four farms totalled 6,433.33 kilogrammes of Cannabis sativa.

Beyond enforcement operations, the Edo command also rehabilitated 23 drug-dependent persons during the period. Having also enrolled 12 others in vocational training programmes including tailoring, perfume-making, and liquid soap production. This forms part of the agency’s broader approach to addressing the social dimensions of drug abuse.
