Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has defended his penchant for dancing, saying it does not affect his duties as governor. Adeleke spoke on Tuesday at a town hall meeting organised by Arise TV for candidates in the August 15 governorship election. The governor described himself as a “prudent worker” and said dancing was part of his personality and hobby. He insisted that his dancing had not stopped him from delivering projects across various sectors of the state.
“I dance because in my family, we are jolly good fellows. As I am dancing, I am working. There is time for everything, there is time to dance, and there is time to work. Dancing does not stop me from working. I have delivered across all sectors,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke responds to dancing criticism
The governor’s comments followed recent criticism from Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo. Okpebholo mocked Adeleke during an APC campaign rally in Osun State and urged voters to reject the “dancing governor”. However, Adeleke said those offended by his dancing should learn to dance. He maintained that the hobby had not affected his performance in office.
“If they can’t dance, I can teach them how to dance,” he said.
Adeleke added that his people appreciated his personality and said dancing remained only a hobby.
“Dancing is a hobby. That does not affect my work. My people love me,” he said.
Adeleke highlights projects
Defending his administration’s performance, Adeleke said his government had constructed and rehabilitated roads across Osun State. He added that solar-powered streetlights had also been installed along some of the roads. According to the governor, the projects would improve security and support economic development.
“As I’m speaking to you, I did not only build roads across Osun, I installed them with solar lights. This we did to provide security and enhance economic development,” he said.
Adeleke also said his administration had upgraded and rehabilitated more than 200 primary healthcare facilities. He said the facilities were equipped with electricity and clean water.
“As of today, we have upgraded and rehabilitated over 200 primary healthcare facilities to global standards, equipped with electricity and clean water,” Adeleke said.
The governor added that qualified engineers had certified the projects as meeting international standards. Adeleke is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party. He left the Peoples Democratic Party, which he represented when he won the 2022 governorship election. He is facing APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and ADC candidate Najeem Salaam, among others, in Saturday’s election.
