Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied claims that he entered into an electoral agreement with the African Democratic Congress before, during or after the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke made the clarification in a statement posted on his verified X account on Tuesday. He credited his re-election to God and the people of Osun State. The governor also said the ADC was not part of the political coalition that supported his campaign during the election.
Adeleke denies ADC alliance
Adeleke said it was important to clarify the role of the ADC in the election, especially after claims of an alliance between his camp and the party. He explained that the ADC was not part of the “rainbow coalition” that campaigned and mobilised support for his re-election.
“I had no electoral deal or partnership with the ADC before, during, or after the governorship election,” Adeleke wrote.
He also thanked the political allies who supported his campaign. According to him, their efforts and sacrifices contributed to his victory. The governor said the clarification was important for the record and for future political discussions surrounding the election.
“For the sake of history, it is important to clarify that the ADC was never part of the rainbow coalition that canvassed, mobilised, and supported our campaign in the battle leading to last Saturday’s election,” he said.
Adeleke said his victory was also a result of the support he received from Osun voters. He added that his administration would now focus on governing the entire state, regardless of political affiliation, religion or ethnicity.
“Now that the election is over, I remain the Governor of all Osun people, irrespective of political affiliation, religion, or tribe. My commitment is to unite our people and continue working for the progress and prosperity of Osun State,” he added.
Adeleke defeats APC, ADC candidates
Adeleke secured another term in office after defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam. The governor polled 511,067 votes in the election, while Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes. Salaam came third with 17,180 votes. Adeleke won 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state. Oyebamiji secured the remaining 11 local government areas.
The governor’s statement comes amid wider political realignments among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
