The Rivers State chapter of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has officially declared that the ADP denies membership in the Rainbow Coalition, an emerging political alliance linked to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Clarifying its position during its 2027 governorship campaign flag-off in Port Harcourt, party leaders affirmed that the ADP denies membership in any external political block. Instead, the party remains an independent political platform focused on offering alternative leadership.
Consequently, party officials emphasized that the ADP will rely strictly on its own grassroots structures to contest upcoming elections.
Therefore, the party urged voters to disregard rumors aligning the ADP with coalition networks across the state.
ADP Candidate Pledges Job Creation and Poverty Alleviation
Addressing supporters, ADP governorship candidate Angel Lawson stated that he entered the race to provide an alternative form of political leadership.
Furthermore, Lawson pledged that his administration will create 500,000 direct and indirect jobs within its first year in office.
“We entered this race to give residents a greater sense of inclusion and economic empowerment,” Lawson declared.
In addition, he expressed deep concern over local unemployment figures. He cited National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) data placing Rivers State’s unemployment rate at 62.4 percent.
He noted that high unemployment has directly exacerbated severe economic hardship and multidimensional poverty across local communities.
APC Candidate Kingsley Chinda Launches Campaign
Simultaneously, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, officially kicked off his election campaign.
Chinda, a key ally of Wike and former House of Representatives minority leader, pledged to govern the state with integrity.
“We will serve Rivers State with the fear of God and love for mankind,” Chinda stated in an official campaign announcement.
Moreover, Chinda emerged as the APC sole contestant after incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara withdrew from the party primary.
Finally, political activities across Rivers State continue to intensify as candidates align structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
