All Progressives Congress says its national working committee (NWC) has waived the screening requirements for Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Felix Morka, APC national publicity secretary, said the decision was taken during the 188th meeting of the NWC held on May 6, 2026.

According to the statement, the committee resolved that Tinubu should be deemed “duly screened” in line with the party’s constitution for participation in the forthcoming primary election.

“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at its 188th Meeting, held today May 6, 2026, resolved to waive, and has waived, screening requirements for His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and deemed him as duly screened in accordance with the Constitution of the Party for the purpose of participation in the upcoming primary elections,” the statement reads.

The party said the decision was made pursuant to Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the APC constitution, which empowers the NWC to organise and supervise party primaries and grant waivers in special circumstances.

The NWC said Tinubu had already secured widespread endorsements from major stakeholders within the ruling party, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), members of the national assembly, and other party organs.

According to the APC, the endorsements were reaffirmed during the party’s national summit held on May 22, 2025.

The party also argued that requiring Tinubu to appear before a screening committee would be unnecessary since he had already undergone the process ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries.

“It noted further that, as the incumbent President, and leader of our great Party, having been duly screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, requiring his physical appearance before a screening committee, at this time, would be redundant and unnecessary,” the statement added.
