APM sweeps Bauchi LG polls, wins all 20 chairmanship seats

The Allied Peoples Movement has won all 20 chairmanship seats in the Bauchi State local government elections.

The party also secured 319 of the 323 councillorship positions contested in Monday’s election. The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission announced the results on Monday night. According to the commission, four other political parties shared the remaining four councillorship seats. Declaring the results, BASIEC Chairman, Hajiya Jummai Abubakar, said the commission completed voting, counting, collation and verification before announcing the winners.

APM wins all 20 LGAs

Among the APM candidates, Umar Mohammed Aliyu recorded the highest vote total. He polled 125,170 votes to win the Bauchi Local Government Area chairmanship. Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo followed with 109,999 votes in Toro, while Bappah Aliyu Mohammed won Alkaleri with 107,482 votes. Ya’u Samaila Sade secured Darazo with 67,276 votes. Yusuf Babayo Zaki also won Katagum with 65,626 votes.

In addition, Ali Babayo won Gamawa with 54,423 votes. Sama’ila Wakili Lere secured Tafawa Balewa with 46,625 votes, while Habibu Idris Usman won Warji with 43,066 votes. In Shira, former Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Saleh Hodi Jibir, won with 37,135 votes.

The other winners were Zakka Luka Magaji in Bogoro with 25,282 votes; Iliya Isah in Dambam with 19,730; Mohammed Abubakar Jibo in Dass with 35,264; and Mohammed Idris M. in Ganjuwa with 24,150 votes. Mustapha Alhaji Musa won Giade with 33,864 votes. Dankawuwa Ya’u secured Itas/Gadau with 24,989 votes, while Inuwa Abdullahi won Jama’are with 36,766 votes. Garba Musa won Kirfi with 24,787 votes, while Salisu Hussaini secured Misau with 34,378 votes. Yahuza Adamu Haruna also won Ningi with 29,387 votes, while Mas’ud Aliyu emerged winner in Zaki with 19,984 votes.

Four parties win councillorship seats

The APM also dominated the councillorship elections, winning 319 of the 323 available seats. However, four other parties won one ward each across the state. The Social Democratic Party won Dandango Ward in Bauchi LGA. The National Rescue Movement secured Darazo South Ward.

Meanwhile, the Zenith Labour Party won Wandi Ward in Dass LGA. The Young Progressive Party also secured Zirami Ward in Giade LGA. BASIEC said it confirmed the successful candidates after they met the relevant legal requirements and recorded the highest number of valid votes in their constituencies. Abubakar maintained that the commission conducted the election independently and in line with the law.

She also commended Governor Bala Mohammed for supporting the commission. In addition, she congratulated Bauchi residents and the successful candidates on the conclusion of the elections.
