Nigeria’s Supreme Court has restored the forfeiture of luxury assets linked to former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.
The Supreme Court has ruled that the Federal Government will take ownership of several luxury properties and over $2.045 million in cash linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The luxury properties forfeited includes:
- Two fully detached duplexes at 17B Hakeem Odumosu Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos
- An undeveloped parcel of land measuring 1,919.592 square metres on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi
- A bungalow at 65A Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi
- A four-bedroom duplex at 12A Probyn Road, Ikoyi
- An industrial complex under construction on 22 plots of land in Agbor, Delta State
- Eight units of apartments on Adekunle Lawal Road, Ikoyi
- A duplex on a 2,217.87 square metre plot at 2A Bank Road, Ikoyi.
Supreme Court overturns Appeal Court ruling
The Federal High Court first ordered the final forfeiture of the assets in November 2024. However, the Court of Appeal overturned the decision in June 2025, citing a lack of fair hearing for parties claiming ownership of some of the properties.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) appealed the ruling, and the Supreme Court has now reinstated the original forfeiture order, confirming that the assets will remain with the Federal Government.
The forfeiture of Emefiele’s luxury properties marks a major legal victory for the EFCC in its asset recovery efforts.
