Aston Villa reach Europa League final after 4-0 win over Forest

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa produced a stunning comeback performance to book a place in the Europa League final.

Aston Villa overturned a first-leg deficit with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at Villa Park, sealing a 4-1 aggregate win to reach the UEFA Europa League final.

More than 43,000 fans packed Villa Park for one of the club’s biggest European nights in decades. Among those celebrating was Prince William, whose passionate reactions in the stands reflected the atmosphere inside the stadium.

Villa entered the match needing a response after losing the first leg, and Ollie Watkins gave the hosts the perfect start by leveling the aggregate score. Emiliano Buendia then calmly converted a penalty to put Villa ahead before captain John McGinn scored twice to complete a dominant display.

The victory also moved manager Unai Emery closer to more European history. Emery, already a four-time Europa League winner, has now reached six European finals in his managerial career. Only Giovanni Trapattoni has appeared in more major European finals as a coach.

Villa controlled the match with aggressive pressing, sharp attacking movement and clinical finishing, leaving Forest unable to recover after halftime.

The result sends Aston Villa into their first Europa League final under Emery and keeps alive hopes of lifting a major European trophy for the first time in decades.
