Fear spread across Ekiti State after gunmen stormed a church service, killed a pastor and left several people missing.
Suspected bandits attacked a Christ Apostolic Church in Eda Oniyo, headquarters of Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, during a revival programme on Tuesday evening.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen entered the church at about 6:45 p.m. and opened fire on worshippers. The visiting minister, identified as Pastor Aregbe, was killed in the attack, while several others were reportedly injured.
Local government chairman Pius Alaba said a number of residents were still missing after the incident, though the exact number had not been confirmed. He added that some worshippers escaped into nearby bushes during the chaos.
The body of the slain pastor has been taken to a morgue, while families continue searching for missing loved ones.
Security agencies had not issued an official statement as of the time of reporting.
The latest attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity and repeated assaults on communities and places of worship in Nigeria.
