Brad Pitt has asked a court to order his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, to release more financial records. The request is part of their long-running legal battle over the French winery, Miraval. According to court documents filed on July 31, Pitt’s lawyers said Jolie only submitted records for 2020 and 2021. However, they claimed she refused to provide documents covering 2017 to 2019. As a result, Pitt’s legal team now wants the court to compel her to hand over those records.
Why Pitt Wants More Financial Records
Pitt’s lawyers argued that the missing documents are important because of claims Jolie made in her lawsuit. They said Jolie previously alleged she put her career on hold after their 2016 separation. She also claimed Pitt had “substantial leverage and control” over her finances.
In addition, she said she decided to sell her stake in Miraval in 2019 to gain “financial independence” from him. Pitt’s team believes records showing her earnings and profit-sharing payments between 2017 and 2019 will help test those claims. They also revealed that Jolie rejected proposals to limit the dispute during earlier court discussions.
Jolie Says Pitt Misrepresented Her Claims
Meanwhile, Jolie strongly disagreed with Pitt’s arguments. In an earlier filing, her lawyers said Pitt had taken her words out of context. They insisted she never claimed she was facing financial hardship. Instead, they explained she only wanted “financial independence from her ex-husband [Pitt].” They also argued that Pitt wrongly described her as feeling “financially cornered.”
According to Jolie’s team, those were Pitt’s words, not hers. They further claimed the dispute was about ending financial ties with her former husband, not a lack of money.
Privacy Concerns Remain at the Centre
Jolie’s lawyers also argued that asking for records before 2020 is an unnecessary invasion of her privacy. They said she had already provided tax returns and profit participation statements for 2020 and 2021, despite having “no obligation” to do so. In their view, those documents should have settled the matter.
Pitt and Jolie separated in 2016 after two years of marriage. Their divorce was finally completed in December 2024. However, the legal battle over Miraval is still far from over.
