A woman has been arrested after attempting to smuggle suspected psychoactive substances into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State. These substances were concealed inside a sachet of Milo beverage powder.
The Nigerian Correctional Service Ogun State Command confirmed the arrest in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Odukoya Olayinka. The incident occurred at approximately 1:33 pm on Friday, August 28, 2026, when the suspect arrived at the facility to visit an inmate on death row.
The contraband was discovered during the standard screening process at the main gate. Officers detected substances suspected to be “colos” concealed within the Milo sachet the woman was attempting to bring inside.
Following her arrest, the suspect was handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Ogun State Controller of Corrections Kamoru Adesina commended the officers involved for their alertness and professionalism. He reiterated the service’s zero-tolerance policy toward drug trafficking within custodial facilities. Further stressing that correctional centres exist for the reformation and rehabilitation of inmates. Therefore, they must not become channels for the circulation of illicit substances.
The command issued a direct warning to members of the public against attempting to compromise prison security. Anyone found introducing prohibited items into custodial facilities, the statement said, would face the full consequences of the law.
