The International Rescue Committee says the Ebola outbreak is spreading faster than health responders can contain it.
The International Rescue Committee has warned that the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda could become the deadliest Ebola crisis ever recorded if urgent action is not taken.
Health officials say the outbreak has already caused more than 900 suspected cases and at least 223 suspected deaths. Cases are now spreading beyond remote communities into major cities, including Goma and Kampala.
The outbreak is linked to the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, which currently has no approved vaccine or treatment. Aid groups say conflict, displacement, weak healthcare systems and funding shortages are making containment efforts more difficult.
The World Health Organization recently declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern, while several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, have introduced travel restrictions and enhanced health screening measures.
Health experts warn that faster international support and stronger regional coordination will be critical to preventing further escalation.
