Edin Dzeko Receives Emotional Farewell After Bosnia Retirement

Edin Dzeko received an emotional farewell from Bosnia-Herzegovina supporters after ending his international career in a 1-1 draw against Sweden in Zenica.

The former Manchester City striker, 40, made his 152nd and final appearance for Bosnia-Herzegovina before bringing an illustrious international career to a close. Dzeko thought he had scored late in the first half when he found the net against Sweden. However, the goal was ruled out after the ball had gone out of play during the build-up.

The occasion was marked by celebrations throughout the match. Fireworks were set off after 11 minutes in recognition of Dzeko’s famous number 11 shirt. He was later substituted after 62 minutes, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd as he left the pitch.

The celebrations continued after the final whistle with an official farewell ceremony. Dzeko was honoured with a guard of honour and a drone show featuring messages thanking him for his contribution to the national team.

During his lap of honour, supporters also threw soft toys onto the pitch as they celebrated one of the most decorated players in Bosnia-Herzegovina’s history. Despite the emotional focus on Dzeko, the match itself remained competitive.

Sweden took the lead through Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres before Bosnia-Herzegovina responded with an equaliser from Kerim Alajbegovic. The result brought an end to Dzeko’s international career, which saw him become a defining figure for Bosnia-Herzegovina over more than a decade.
