The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has called on former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva to make himself available for questioning. This comes in response to allegations the former minister levelled against the agency in his resignation letter from the All Progressives Congress.
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale kept his response brief and pointed.
“He has been declared wanted. He should make himself available to the commission,” he said.
Sylva had submitted his resignation from the APC on Monday, attaching a copy to the EFCC and using the letter to accuse the commission of operating as an organ of the ruling party rather than an independent institution of state. He also accused the Tinubu administration of abandoning the founding ideals of the APC.
“As a founding member of the APC, and one who joined other well-meaning Nigerians in building the Party with sweat and money, it is deeply saddening to witness how the ideals we espoused have been so thoroughly and unrecognisably thwarted,” Sylva wrote.
He added that he could not continue to belong to a party whose leaders believe “all is fair in politics.”
The EFCC declared Sylva wanted in November 2025 in connection with an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion involving $14,859,257. Investigators have identified him as an alleged principal financier of the scheme. Further accusing him of contributing approximately N785 million through an Abuja-based company, Purple Waves Limited.
Sylva served as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and as a two-term governor of Bayelsa State.
