FG panel reveals Bobrisky allegedly enjoyed special prison privileges in Kirikiri, including a soundproof cell, mobile phones, private meals, and frequent visitors during his jail term.
The Federal Government’s investigative panel has revealed fresh details about the treatment given to popular crossdresser, Bobrisky, during his prison stay.
According to the report, Bobrisky enjoyed several special privileges while serving his six-month sentence for naira abuse. He was jailed on April 12, 2024, and released on August 5, 2024. However, allegations that surfaced after his release sparked public outrage and led to a full investigation.
The controversy started after social media activist, VeryDarkMan, released an audio recording allegedly involving Bobrisky. In the recording, Bobrisky reportedly claimed he paid ₦15 million to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges. He also allegedly said he bribed prison officials to serve his sentence in a private apartment.
As a result, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo set up an investigative panel on September 30. The panel was chaired by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalena Ajani. During its findings, the panel discovered that Bobrisky stayed in a special single cell at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri.
The room reportedly had a private toilet, bathroom, carpet, television, fridge, humidifier, and “good-looking electric bulbs.” He also enjoyed self-feeding, while family members regularly brought meals. In addition, the report stated that he received visitors “as frequently and in whatever numbers he desired.”
At the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, the privileges allegedly continued. His room reportedly contained wallpaper, a large bed, carpet, humidifier, and a television. An inmate was also assigned to attend to his personal needs.
More importantly, the panel found a soundproofed door attached to Bobrisky’s private cell, Room A12. It stated:
“There is a need to thoroughly investigate why the door was padded to understand what noise or sound was being shielded from the others.”
The report also suggested that mobile phones may have been used inside the facility. Consequently, the panel recommended a DSS investigation into alleged bribery involving EFCC and prison officials.
It further recommended legal action against Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan over allegations including defamation, incitement, and possible violations of the Cybercrimes Act.
