Romanian prosecutors have charged social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate with further alleged trafficking and sex offences.
The brothers are accused of making more than $1.2m by coercing a girl into performing sex acts during video chats, according to Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
Andrew Tate faces charges of trafficking minors, money laundering and having sex with a minor. His brother Tristan is charged with complicity in trafficking minors and money laundering. Regardless, the brothers deny all the allegations.
Many of the new charges concern a woman investigators allege was recruited by Tristan when she was 15. Prosecutors allege she was later sheltered in a building in Luton, Bedfordshire, for sexual exploitation by Andrew.
DIICOT investigators accuse Andrew of controlling the girl through surveillance and physical aggression. They allege he coerced her into performing sex acts on video chats for his financial benefit. Prosecutors further allege that Andrew moved her to Romania, where the exploitation continued at two of his properties.
Andrew is separately accused of having sex with another minor who was 15 at the time in Romania.
Romanian prosecutors have also requested the confiscation of four luxury cars belonging to the brothers. The vehicles are valued at about £710,000, and investigators believe their purchase was connected to money laundering.
It remains unclear whether DIICOT will seek their extradition from the US in connection with the new Romanian charges. The latest indictment must first be examined by a judge before any trial can begin.
