INEC Publishes Final List of Presidential Candidates for 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission has published the final list of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. The list confirms 18 presidential contenders across multiple political parties ahead of the election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The list, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, features President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress seeking re-election. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar returns under the African Democratic Congress banner, while former Anambra Governor Peter Obi runs on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde enters the race under the Allied Peoples Movement. Sandy Ojang Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party, while former Cross River Governor Donald Duke runs on the Peoples Redemption Party.

Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress and Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party also feature, having previously contested. Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of the Action Alliance, Abbas-Bin Aliyu of the Action Democratic Party, Yusuf Kabiru of the Action Peoples Party, Sunday Adenuga of the Boot Party, Adebisi Olusoji of the Democratic Labour Alliance, Sunday Okereke of the Labour Party, Peter Agada of the Young Progressive Party, and Nwanyanwu Daberechukwu of the Zenith Labour Party complete the field.

Two female presidential candidates are on the final list. Ada Elizabeth Frederick of the National Democratic Party and Nkem Esther of the National Rescue Movement.

Four women are also listed as vice-presidential candidates. They include Peace Egobia of the APP, Nafisat Usaku of the DLA, Hajja Konto of the Labour Party, and Patience Key of the YPP.
