The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced its complete readiness for the 2027 general elections, declaring its focus on fielding candidates across all elective positions nationwide.
Speaking at the party’s National Convention in Abuja, National Chairman Prof. Sadiq Gombe affirmed that the gathering proved the party’s strength and internal unity.
Consequently, Gombe declared that the SDP will actively contest the presidency, 109 Senate seats, 360 House of Representatives seats, 28 governorships, and 1,015 state assembly seats.
Therefore, party officials have commenced nationwide training across all six geopolitical zones to boost grassroots mobilization.
SDP Focuses on Four Key Pillars and Grassroots Engagement
Highlighting the party’s political agenda, Gombe stressed that the SDP offers a clear alternative for national progress.
Furthermore, he outlined four foundational pillars guiding their policy framework: security, productive employment, social justice, and accountable governance.
“No individual is bigger than the party,” Gombe stated, calling on members to engage voters with integrity and humility.
In addition, he noted that the unveiling of the policy document by presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo and Dr. Usman Bugaje proves the party’s readiness to govern.
The chairman emphasized that mobilizing women and youth remains essential to achieving victory in the 2027 general elections.
Presidential Candidate Blames Bad Leadership for Widespread Poverty
Addressing delegates, SDP presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo criticized past leadership for Nigeria’s persistent economic hardship.
According to Adebayo, the nation’s vast natural wealth in oil, gas, and mineral resources makes widespread poverty completely unjustifiable.
“God gave Nigeria wealth, leaders gave poverty,” Adebayo stated.
Moreover, he recalled the party’s historic victory in the 1993 presidential election under the late MKO Abiola.
Finally, Adebayo pledged that the party remains committed to defeating poverty and delivering good governance to all Nigerians.
