The funeral mass for Nollywood veteran Olu Jacobs is underway in Lagos. Family members, friends and dignitaries gathered on Friday to honour the late actor.
The service is taking place at This Present House, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase I. Jacobs’ widow, actress Joke Silva, attended the service with their sons, Olusoji and Olugbenga Jacobs. The family members wore matching blue outfits.
Jacobs’ casket stood in front of the church as the service began. Flowers decorated the casket, adding a solemn touch to the ceremony.
A live coverage by Lufodo Productions showed guests arriving for the emotional farewell. Several notable Nigerians also attended the funeral mass.
Among the dignitaries at the service were Lagos State First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat. Hamzat attended with his wife, Chief Mrs Oluremi Hamzat. Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, also joined the mourners. Former Ekiti State First Lady, Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, was among the guests.
Jacobs, whose full name was Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, died on September 16, 2026. He was 84 years old. His funeral follows a Night of Tributes held on Wednesday, September 30, at Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos Island. Guests at Friday’s service were asked to wear shades of green.
After the funeral mass, the family will hold a private burial for the celebrated actor.
