Iran says Washington is escalating conflict even as ceasefire talks continue.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of choosing a “reckless military adventure” whenever diplomacy is possible. His comments came after both countries blamed each other for fresh attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X, Araghchi said Iran would “never bow to pressure” and questioned whether recent US actions were part of a deliberate pressure campaign. Despite the rising tensions, US President Donald Trump said the ceasefire remains active and negotiations to end the conflict are still ongoing.
The US Central Command said Iranian forces launched missiles, drones and small boats at three US warships on Thursday. Iran’s military, however, accused the US of targeting an Iranian oil tanker and carrying out strikes along coastal areas near the strait.
The conflict has heavily disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major global oil route that handles nearly 20% of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supply. Fresh attacks were also reported on Friday, including a cargo vessel fire near Iran’s Minab waters and missile interceptions by the United Arab Emirates.
Washington has paused its naval escort mission in the Gulf but continues to pressure Tehran through sanctions and a naval blockade, while both sides weigh a possible new agreement.
