Fresh Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least 19 people, including women and children, according to Lebanese health officials.
Lebanon said at least 19 people were killed after a wave of Israeli air strikes targeted areas in the country’s south, despite a recently extended ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
Lebanon’s health ministry said 10 people, including three children and three women, died when an air strike hit a house in the town of Deir Qanoun. Nine more people were reportedly killed in separate strikes across the Nabatieh and Tyre districts, while dozens were injured.
The violence comes less than a week after the United States announced a 45-day extension of a ceasefire aimed at reducing fighting along the Israel-Lebanon border. However, cross-border attacks have continued, with Hezbollah claiming attacks on Israeli forces and Israel saying it is targeting Hezbollah military positions.
The conflict intensified in March after Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel following US-Israeli strikes linked to Iran. Lebanese officials say more than 3,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks since then.
The latest escalation has raised fears that the fragile ceasefire could collapse as fighting continues across southern Lebanon.
