Mainoo winner fires United back into the Champions League

Late strike seals dramatic victory and ends United’s two-year absence from Europe’s elite.

Manchester United have secured a return to the UEFA Champions League after a thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford, sealed by a late goal from Kobbie Mainoo.

United led 2-0 at half-time through goals from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, before Liverpool responded with quick strikes from Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo. The match was decided late on when Mainoo struck from the edge of the box after a defensive error.

The win confirms United’s return to Europe’s top competition for the first time in two years. It also marks their first league double over Liverpool since the 2015–16 season.

The result strengthens the case for interim boss Michael Carrick, who has now beaten all of England’s top clubs this season.

With momentum restored, Manchester United are back among Europe’s elite—and finishing the season strongly.
