Search intensifies as multinational forces launch rescue operation.
Two US service members have been reported missing during a joint military exercise in Morocco, according to US Africa Command. The personnel disappeared near the Cap Draa training area, close to Tan Tan, during operations linked to African Lion 2026.
A coordinated search and rescue mission is now underway, involving air, ground, and maritime teams from the US, Morocco, and partner nations. Officials have not yet disclosed the identities or military units of the missing personnel.
African Lion is the largest annual US-led military exercise in Africa, bringing together about 7,000 troops from over 30 countries. The drills, which began in April, are being held across Morocco, Tunisia, Ghana, and Senegal.
Morocco remains a key US ally in a region facing growing security challenges, including political instability in parts of West Africa.
The search continues as authorities work urgently to locate the missing service members.
