Franco Mastantuono made history at Venezia on Friday night, scoring a hat-trick for Fiorentina to help the Viola to a 4-2 win and become the youngest Argentine to score a hat-trick in Europe’s five major leagues.
Aged 19 years and 28 days, Mastantuono was 231 days younger than Messi when the Argentina legend scored his first European hat-trick for Barcelona. One that came against Real Madrid on March 10, 2007. According to ESPN, Mastantuono’s treble on Friday has now moved him ahead of his compatriot in that particular record.
Fiorentina had fallen behind at Venezia after Akor Adams put the hosts ahead in the 22nd minute. Mastantuono then took over. He struck in the 29th minute, again in the 30th, with Matteo Pellegrino adding a fourth in the 66th before Mastantuono completed his hat-trick in the 84th. A late consolation from Antony Haino made it 4-2 but could not change the story of the night.

Friday’s goals were Mastantuono’s first for Fiorentina since arriving from Real Madrid on a season-long loan. The hat-trick also drew him level with his entire goal tally from 35 appearances for Real Madrid last season.
