Olori Atuwatse III, wife of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has opened up about her husband’s views on polygamy.
The Queen made the comment during an interview with the BBC. She said the monarch cannot change his mind about the traditional practice.
According to Olori Atuwatse III, she already fulfils several roles in their marriage. She jokingly said she is enough for her husband because she is “like three women.” She said,
“His Majesty cannot change his mind about polygamy because me alone, I’m like three women! I am more than enough for him.”
Olori also revealed another interesting detail about their relationship.
“You want me to tell you a secret? I’m my husband’s stylist,” she said.
Beyond marriage, the Queen also spoke about her fashion choices. She explained that she does not feel restricted by her position as a royal. Instead, she sees her clothing as part of her identity and responsibility.
“My dressing is how I like it. People ask me why I dey cover my hair. My turban is my crown, so that’s how I see it.
“So anytime I’m in my Queen mode, I like to cover my hair to show respect for the office. I don’t feel I’m restricted.
“Have you seen my style? I’m not restricted at all,” she said.
Her comments have since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians discussing her confidence and sense of humour. Some people praised her for embracing her role in the marriage. Others joked about what could happen if the Olu eventually takes another wife.
Her remarks have also renewed conversations about polygamy, tradition and relationships within royal families.
