A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi State, Dino Melaye, has criticised the appointment of Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS) chairman, Zacch Adedeji, to a fundraising role in President Bola Tinubu’s campaign council.
Melaye raised his concerns in a post on his X account on Sunday. He questioned the decision because Adedeji is a public official responsible for revenue collection.
Melaye Raises Conflict Of Interest Concerns
Melaye alleged that Adedeji’s new role could create a conflict of interest. He pointed to the NRS chairman’s responsibility for revenue collection while serving in Tinubu’s campaign structure.
“The chairman of FIRS is the deputy director in charge of fundraising of presidential campaign of Tinubu,” Melaye alleged.
The ADC chieftain said he plans to seek legal clarification on the matter. He also questioned whether the appointment complies with the rules governing public officials.
“Is there no conflict in this? As a lawyer, by the grace of God, on Monday I’m going to court. We have to test that,” he said.
Melaye Criticises Tinubu’s Campaign Council
Melaye also criticised the size and structure of Tinubu’s campaign council. He described the council as “very, very, very bogus” and alleged that some committees and positions had been duplicated. He said he would challenge the matter in court. According to Melaye, public officials must comply with the provisions of the Public Service Rules.
“If that is not conflict of interest, I don’t know what else it would be,” he said.
Melaye Reaffirms Opposition To Tinubu
Melaye also reaffirmed his opposition to Tinubu’s re-election bid. He said he would continue to oppose the President as the 2027 election approaches. He declared that “the battle to stop Tinubu is a battle of no retreat, no surrender.”
