Manchester United confirm Michael Carrick as permanent manager

Michael Carrick has been rewarded with the Manchester United job after guiding the club back into the Champions League.

Manchester United have confirmed Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent head coach on a two-year contract following an impressive spell as interim manager.

The 44-year-old took charge in January after the departure of Ruben Amorim and has since transformed United’s season. Carrick guided the club to a guaranteed third-place finish in the Premier League and secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

United have won 11 of their 16 matches under Carrick, collecting 36 league points since his appointment — the highest total of any Premier League side during that period. His turnaround has also earned him a nomination for the Premier League Manager of the Season award.

Carrick said leading Manchester United was a “huge pride” and praised his players for showing resilience, determination and unity during a difficult period for the club.

The former England midfielder spent 12 years at Old Trafford as a player, winning five Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup before moving into coaching.

United had struggled earlier in the season under Amorim, with poor results and tactical disagreements reportedly creating tension inside the club before his dismissal.

Carrick now faces the challenge of rebuilding Manchester United into genuine contenders for major trophies once .
