Mohbad’s Father Refuses Reburial Until DNA Test Is Completed

Mohbad’s father says the late singer will not be reburied until Liam’s DNA test is completed. The court adjourned the case to August 11, 2026.

DNA dispute keeps Mohbad’s burial on hold

Almost three years after Mohbad’s death, the controversy over his son Liam’s paternity is still unresolved. Because of that, the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, says Mohbad will not be reburied until a DNA test is completed. He spoke after a hearing at the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu.

The court later adjourned the case to August 11, 2026, for the hearing of fresh applications filed by the Aloba family. Mohbad died on September 12, 2023. His body was later exhumed for an autopsy, and the family insists the DNA issue must be settled before another burial takes place.

Joseph Aloba explains why DNA is important

Speaking after the court session, Joseph Aloba said the DNA test is now bigger than a simple paternity dispute. According to him, it could also help in the search for answers about Mohbad’s death.

“This DNA test is a must. I am glad that many people are following the case. The issue goes beyond paternity. We are trying to unravel the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. His death was not natural, so the DNA test has become the most important issue delaying his burial.”

He also explained why the singer was buried quickly after his death.

“There is a Yoruba proverb that says, ‘Ojo ta ba ri ibi ni ibi n wo’le.’ That was why I initially buried Mohbad. However, since his body was exhumed, many issues have emerged. We must conclude the DNA test before burying him again because his body remains vital evidence.”

Aloba family challenges fresh DNA application

Meanwhile, the Aloba family’s lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, questioned a separate DNA application filed by Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba. He argued that the family had already requested a DNA test years earlier. He also claimed there should not be two different court cases on the same issue.

According to him, the family has asked the court to cancel an earlier order because they were not included in that proceeding. Ogungbe also opposed any plan to keep the identity of the DNA laboratory secret. He insisted that every party must know the laboratory handling the test to ensure fairness and transparency.

Court battle continues as family awaits next hearing

The lawyer further revealed that one of the laboratories presented during the case reportedly lacked the capacity to carry out tissue-based DNA testing. That discovery raised fresh concerns about the process.

As a result, the Aloba family has asked the court to approve a trusted laboratory that all parties can verify. They believe this will protect the integrity of the result. For now, the case remains before the court, and the next hearing is fixed for August 11, 2026.

Until then, Joseph Aloba maintains that Mohbad’s remains will not be laid to rest again.
