Morocco ended Canada’s historic World Cup campaign with a dominant win to book a place in the last 16.
Morocco defeated Canada 3-0 in Houston to advance to the 2026 FIFA World Cup last 16 and eliminate one of the tournament’s co-hosts. Azzedine Ounahi scored twice, while Soufiane Rahimi added a late third to seal a convincing victory.
Canada started brightly and created the better chances early on, but failed to beat Moroccan goalkeeper Bono. Morocco broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half when Ounahi fired home from Achraf Hakimi’s clever free-kick. Ounahi struck again on the counterattack before Rahimi completed the scoring in stoppage time.
The result sends Morocco into the last 16, keeping alive hopes of matching or surpassing their historic run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals. Canada, meanwhile, bow out after recording the most successful World Cup campaign in the nation’s history, including their first win, first point and first knockout-stage appearance.
Morocco now move one step closer to another memorable World Cup run, while Canada’s breakthrough tournament comes to an end.
