NECO has released the 2026 SSCE results, with 58.67% of candidates earning five credits, including English and Mathematics
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results.
A total of 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination. However, 1,371,992 candidates eventually sat for the examination.
According to NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, 804,948 candidates earned at least five credits. The result includes English Language and Mathematics.
That figure represents 58.67% of the candidates who sat for the examination. Meanwhile, 1,126,118 candidates earned five credits and above in any subjects.
This represents 84.70% of the candidates who took the examination.
NECO records major drop in examination malpractice
Meanwhile, NECO recorded a sharp decline in examination malpractice cases in 2026.
The council identified 1,496 candidates for examination malpractice. This is significantly lower than the 3,878 cases recorded in 2025.
Wushishi said the figure represents a 64.74% decrease in malpractice cases.
He also linked the decline partly to the adoption of computer-based examinations. According to him, the new system has helped reduce malpractice during NECO examinations.
NECO speaks on miracle centres
During the briefing, Wushishi also addressed questions about so-called miracle centres.
He said NECO does not operate or promote such centres. Wushishi explained that the council only registers centres that meet its requirements.
“We don’t know miracle centres because we have only one school and we cannot be associated with miracle centres,” Wushishi said.
He added that any existing miracle centres belong to state governments or private operators. Wushishi stressed that NECO does not support the practice.
