The NCDC says Nigeria is on high alert over the risk of Ebola cases entering the country from affected regions.
Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has warned that Nigeria faces a high risk of Ebola importation due to ongoing outbreaks in Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
The agency said the country’s national Emergency Operations Centre has been placed on alert mode as part of preparedness efforts. Rapid response teams, epidemiologists and laboratories near international entry points have also been put on standby.
According to the NCDC, Nigeria already has strong response systems in place, including trained outbreak teams, laboratory capacity and experience from previous Ebola outbreaks. The agency added that sample collection and transportation systems are being strengthened for faster diagnosis of suspected cases.
The health agency also said it is intensifying public awareness campaigns to tackle misinformation about Ebola.
Nigeria successfully contained past Ebola outbreaks, including the 2014 outbreak that threatened several African countries.
