At least nine passengers have been killed after gunmen opened fire on a commercial bus in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack occurred around 9:40 p.m. at Dungus Junction in Kuru community, according to residents and community sources. The bus was reportedly travelling towards Jos when the driver stopped at the junction to drop off passengers. The attackers then opened fire on the vehicle. Moments later, the bus was found riddled with bullets and stained with blood.
Rwang Tengwong, spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), also confirmed the attack. He said all those killed were passengers travelling to Jos and that a member of Operation Rainbow was among the victims.
Some passengers reportedly survived the attack with gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospitals for treatment. Some of the injured passengers later died, according to Tengwong.
The incident has renewed concerns over security along roads and communities in Plateau State, where attacks have continued to claim lives. The Plateau State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident as of press time. However, authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations into the attack continue.
