Nigeria Police Issue Nationwide Alert Over Planned ISWAP Attacks

The Nigeria Police Force has issued a nationwide security alert over intelligence indicating possible attacks by ISWAP on churches, mosques, schools and NYSC camps.

The alert covers the North East, North Central, North West and South West regions, according to the directive. Police personnel were ordered to address any identified security weaknesses without delay as part of preventive measures. The Force also directed officers to maintain heightened vigilance across their areas of responsibility.

“All personnel should maintain heightened vigilance and report suspicious persons, vehicles, movements or objects through established channels,” the police stated.

Personnel were further instructed to promptly report credible threats and security incidents to the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of Operations.

The directive comes amid ongoing security concerns over attacks by armed groups in parts of Nigeria. However, the police alert describes the reported ISWAP attacks as a potential threat based on new intelligence, rather than confirmed attacks.

Authorities are urging personnel to remain alert and use established security channels to share relevant information as security agencies respond to the intelligence.
