Noah Lyles delivered a statement performance at the US Athletics Championships by winning the men’s 100m in a world-leading time of 9.79 seconds.
The 29-year-old matched his personal best, which he set while winning Olympic gold in Paris in 2024. The race took place at Icahn Stadium in New York City.
Lyles’ winning time surpassed the previous world-leading mark of 9.82 seconds, recorded by Jamaica’s Oblique Seville in June.
After the race, Lyles declared that he had reminded everyone he remains the world’s fastest man.
He said that despite there being no Olympics or World Championships this year, he had no intention of slowing down. He added that consistency and dominance remain his goals.
Ronnie Baker finished second in 9.88 seconds, while Kenny Bednarek claimed third with the same time. Former world champion Christian Coleman placed fourth after clocking 9.93 seconds.
In the women’s event, Sha’Carri Richardson secured victory in 10.77 seconds, equalling her season’s best performance.
Kayla White finished second in 10.90 seconds, while Tamari Davis claimed third in 11.00 seconds.
Richardson said she was happy to be healthy mentally, physically and emotionally, adding that the improvements she and her coach had worked on were now showing consistently.
