Obi insists he won 2023, says 2027 won’t be rigged

Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has reiterated that he won the 2023 presidential election but was denied victory by the system, insisting that such an outcome will not repeat in 2027.

Speaking in an interview with Symfoni Media, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential hopeful said he remains convinced of his performance in the last election.

“As far as I’m concerned, I have run election for the office of the president of Nigeria and won, but the system decided otherwise,” Obi said.

2027 WILL BE DIFFERENT

He said efforts are ongoing within the opposition coalition to ensure a different outcome in the next election.

“The only thing I can tell you is that, given the opportunity, we will now win and they will not be able to change it,” he added.

Obi said the coalition, which includes figures like Rabiu Kwankwaso, is focused on bringing together competence, capacity, and commitment to address Nigeria’s challenges.

He described the alliance as an attempt to build a broad-based platform capable of delivering meaningful change.

The former Anambra governor also alleged that he faces sustained pressure and intimidation aimed at weakening his political chances.

“What is happening to me in Nigeria today cannot be described… they are killing all avenues in which you can make a living,” he said.

Obi said such challenges have only strengthened his resolve to continue his political pursuit.

“For me, it is only making me stronger because I believe that I have to fight for the future of society,” he said.

He added that Nigeria must build a system where merit, hard work, and opportunity determine success, rather than connections or influence.

“We must have a society where a child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” he said.

Obi said his motivation remains the need to secure a better future for younger generations, warning that failure to act could lead to deeper national decline.

“We must bequeath them a better society… that’s what I’m fighting for,” he added.
