Pastor and wellness entrepreneur, Bunmi George, has said some things people call generational curses may actually be family behaviours passed down through generations. George made the statement while speaking on The Shining Light Show.
According to her, people can unknowingly repeat unhealthy patterns they learned at home. She explained that these behaviours can affect relationships, marriage and personal choices.
George used family relationships to explain her point. She said some women may copy behaviours they saw in their mothers or grandmothers.
“Did you know that sometimes these generational curses that we talk about, they’re actually behaviors?” she asked.
She described a family where women repeatedly struggled with relationships. According to her, such patterns can continue when younger family members grow up seeing them as normal.Similarly, George said men can repeat the same mistakes they saw in their fathers.
“I’m treating my wife the way my father treated my mother. Even though I vowed that I’m going to treat my wife better,” she said.
However, she stressed that making a promise alone may not change the behaviour.
“But it’s not only about vowing. You must replace it with something higher,” she added.
George encouraged people to seek God through prayer and learn from the life of Jesus. She also advised people to work on changing harmful behaviours instead of simply blaming their family history.
“People like that might need therapy. Go and get professional help,” she said.
For couples facing similar struggles, she urged them to show “a lot of grace and a lot of compassion.” She also encouraged partners to work “hand in hand” to protect their marriages and build healthier relationships.
