Peter Obi has clarified his billionaire status after a recent interview sparked conversations online. The former Anambra State governor said he is a billionaire when his wealth is measured in naira.
However, he stressed that he is not a dollar billionaire. Obi made the clarification during an interview with media personalities Adeola Fayehun and Rudolf Okonkwo.
During the interview, the presidential candidate explained how people define the term “billionaire.” According to Obi, the global standard usually measures billionaire wealth in US dollars. He said,
“You know they calculate billionaire in dollars. In naira, yes I am in naira but not in dollars.”
His comment has since attracted attention across social media.
Obi also insisted that his billionaire status applies when his wealth gets measured in naira.
“You know dollars is what they use to measure. Dollars is what they use to measure billionaire, it’s always in dollars but in naira, yes I am. Capital yes,” he added.
His explanation comes as Nigerians continue to debate wealth and political leaders.
Meanwhile, the comment has drawn fresh attention because of discussions about his family’s lifestyle. Online users recently debated a handbag reportedly linked to his wife, Margaret Obi. Some reports claimed the Hermès Kelly 35 bag could cost more than ₦200 million. However, the handbag’s reported value remains part of online speculation.
Obi’s latest comments have now added another talking point to the conversation about his wealth.
