The Plateau State Government has mobilised drugs and medical supplies to health facilities treating patients affected by a diphtheria outbreak.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has directed the immediate deployment of drugs and other medical commodities to facilities managing diphtheria patients across the state.
The Director-General of the Plateau State Drug and Medical Commodity Management Agency, Kim Jerry Bot, disclosed the intervention on Monday. Bot said supplies had already been mobilised to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) and Plateau State Specialist Hospital (PSSH). He said the state government responded quickly after receiving reports of the outbreak. Efforts are now underway to extend the intervention to other affected health facilities.
According to Bot, Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr Nicholas Baamlong, has also been coordinating the government’s response to contain the disease.
“Governor Caleb Mutfwang has directed, and we have acted accordingly,” Bot said.
He added that medications and medical commodities had been delivered to JUTH and PSSH, while preparations were ongoing to support other centres.
Bot commended Governor Mutfwang for what he described as his empathy and prompt response to the health emergency.
The latest intervention is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen the medical response. While also ensuring that facilities treating diphtheria patients have the supplies they need.
