20 Feared Dead in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community in Mangu

More than twenty people, including women and children, are feared killed in a pre-dawn attack on Amper community in the BWI district of Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State, sources and police have confirmed.

The attack took place in the early hours of Tuesday, marking the third violent incident recorded in Mangu within the space of a week. Local sources said one person was shot in a previous attack earlier in the week.

Plateau State Police Command spokesperson Alfred Alabo confirmed the latest attack. Further saying the initial figure received by the command stood at 18 casualties. He added that the toll was believed to have climbed beyond 20 as further information continued to emerge. The Commissioner of Police, Faniyan Ayodeji, and a team of officers were en route to the scene at the time of publication to conduct a direct assessment.

Several people are also reported missing following the attack, with the full scale of casualties yet to be determined.

The incident has deepened fear and anger among residents of Mangu, who are calling on the federal and state governments. The calls are centred on taking immediate and decisive action to protect communities from further attacks. The pattern of repeated violence within days of each other has left residents feeling exposed and abandoned.

Plateau State has endured months of recurring attacks on farming communities. Mangu LGA has now become a focal point of that crisis. These seven days has painted a grim picture of deteriorating security across the north-central region.
