Police Arrest 12 Suspected Cultists in Edo Community

Security operatives raid suspected hideout

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command, in collaboration with the Edo State Security Corps, have arrested 12 suspected cultists in Edo State.

The suspects were arrested at Amazing Grace Estate in Elele Community, Uzairue, Auchi, located in Edo North.

Arrest followed intelligence report

The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the development in a statement released on Monday.

She said operatives acted on credible intelligence received on May 7, 2026. According to her, the officers responded swiftly and carried out the operation around 6:00 pm.

Suspects allegedly planned attacks

Police said the suspects allegedly mobilised from Okpella to launch attacks on rival groups.

The arrested suspects include Abiola Anabgaifo, Idogo Joshua, Oseni Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Iyamah Precious, Usman Rapheal, Ogene Jude, Ibrahim Akeem, Tunde Bright, Jude Edeh, Godwin Edeh, and Aigbona Clifford.

Authorities believe the group planned coordinated attacks before security operatives intercepted them.

Seven suspects reportedly confessed

During preliminary investigations, seven of the suspects allegedly admitted to being cult members.

Police identified some of them as members of the Aye and Vikings confraternities.

Investigators said the interrogation process is still ongoing.

Vehicle recovered during operation

Security operatives also recovered a grey Mercedes-Benz Jeep with registration number GWA 471 DS.

Police said the vehicle allegedly belongs to one Balogun Isreal, who remains at large.

Authorities have launched efforts to track and arrest the fleeing suspect.

Commissioner praises officers

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the officers involved in the operation.

He praised their swift response and professionalism during the raid.

Agbonika also assured residents that the command will continue its crackdown on cultism and violent crimes across the state.

Suspects transferred for prosecution

Police confirmed that all suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Cultism Unit for further investigation.

The command said the suspects will face prosecution after investigations conclude.

Warning to criminal elements

The police command warned criminal groups to stay away from Edo State.

Officials stressed that security agencies remain prepared to deal with anyone threatening peace and public safety.

The command also urged residents to continue sharing useful information with security operatives to support ongoing efforts against crime.
