Suspect Arrested After Suspicious Movement
The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Sagir Muntari, over an alleged ritual-related offence at General Hospital, Funtua.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday in Katsina.
According to the statement, hospital officials reported suspicious movement within the facility on May 9, 2026.
Hospital Staff Alert Security Officials
The command said the hospital’s Chief Security Officer received a report around 4:20 pm after a staff member noticed the suspect wandering inside the premises.
Security personnel quickly alerted police operatives, who moved to the scene and arrested the suspect.
“The Katsina State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Ali Umar Fage, arrested a suspect linked to attempted criminal activities associated with witchcraft and ritual practices at General Hospital, Funtua,” the statement read.
Suspect Allegedly Confessed During Interrogation
Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly entered the hospital with the intention of obtaining the womb of a newborn baby.
According to the command, the suspect planned to use it for spiritual and criminal charm activities.
Investigators have continued questioning the suspect as the probe progresses.
Police Warn Against Ritual Activities
The police command warned residents against ritual-related crimes and other unlawful activities across the state.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, healthcare facilities and public institutions.
The command urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities to nearby police stations or through emergency contact lines.
Police added that the suspect would face prosecution after investigators conclude the case.
