Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to China next week as Moscow and Beijing move to strengthen their strategic alliance.
The Kremlin confirmed that Putin will visit China from May 19 to 20 for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both leaders are expected to discuss trade, economic cooperation, and closer political ties between the two countries.
According to the Kremlin, the visit aims to “further strengthen the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation” between Russia and China. Putin is also expected to hold talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on economic and trade issues.
The visit comes just days after US President Donald Trump concluded a high-profile summit with Xi in Beijing. While Trump announced broad trade agreements with China, key tensions over Taiwan, Iran, and the Russia-Ukraine war remained unresolved.
China and Russia have deepened economic and political cooperation since the start of the Ukraine war in 2022, with Beijing becoming Moscow’s largest trading partner amid Western sanctions.
Putin’s China visit is expected to reinforce the growing Russia-China partnership at a time of rising global geopolitical tensions.
