Presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced a plan for independent polling unit transmission of election results during the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, Obi explained that his team will deploy a dual monitoring system. This mechanism will send results directly to a situation room alongside the official Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

Consequently, this independent polling unit transmission framework aims to ensure real-time vote verification and protect ballot integrity.

Therefore, Obi called on citizens and civic organizations to actively safeguard their votes to prevent electoral manipulation.

Former Governor Rejects Claims of Setting Up Parallel System

Clarifying the operational scope, Obi denied allegations that independent polling unit transmission constitutes a parallel electoral body.

Furthermore, he stressed that civil society groups and international observers can similarly implement monitoring frameworks to enhance overall transparency.

“We must ensure that at every polling unit, votes are counted, recorded, and transmitted properly,” Obi stated.

In addition, he maintained that delivering a free and fair election is fully achievable in Nigeria, referencing successful transparent elections in Ghana.

Focus on Citizen Participation and Election Integrity

Emphasizing democratic accountability, Obi framed the 2027 contest as a collective struggle between the Nigerian electorate and entrenched political interests.

According to him, citizen vigilance at polling stations remains the primary defense against altered election results.

“Our task is to ensure that nobody pronounces results that did not originate from the polling units,” Obi added.

Moreover, he urged electoral authorities to maintain absolute neutrality and resist political pressure throughout the election cycle.

Finally, adopting transparent polling unit transmission methods will help restore public trust in democratic institutions and secure genuine mandate protection.
