Paris Saint-Germain have endured a difficult start to their Ligue 1 title defence after losing 2-1 to AS Monaco.
Paris Saint-Germain are now four games without a victory after falling 2-1 to AS Monaco on Saturday. The defeat leaves PSG without a win in their opening three Ligue 1 matches. It is their worst start to a league campaign since the 2012/13 season.
Their recent run has included two draws and two defeats. PSG drew 2-2 with Lille and Rennes before losing 0-1 to Lens in the Trophée des Champions.
The latest setback has increased the pressure around manager Luis Enrique, although the Spaniard remains confident in his team’s performances.
“If we play again this game in this way, 10 more times… we win eight, Monaco win one and maybe there’s a draw,” Enrique said after the match.
“Monaco know that. But that’s why football is beautiful!”
Enrique was also asked about PSG starting the Ligue 1 season with no wins from three matches.
“If you want to bet on who will be champions, let’s bet… but I’m saying nothing!” he replied.
Despite the poor opening results, PSG’s last comparable start came in 2012/13. They eventually recovered that season and went on to win the Ligue 1 title.
The current run, however, puts early pressure on Enrique and his squad as they look to get their league campaign back on track.
