Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Jorge Jesus’ first Portugal squad, ending uncertainty over whether the 41-year-old would continue his international career.
The Al-Nassr forward is part of a 25-man squad selected for Portugal’s four Nations League matches between September 24 and October 4. Ronaldo had declined to confirm his international future after Portugal were eliminated by eventual champions Spain in the World Cup.
Following the defeat, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said he would return to his family before deciding. “I will meet the family and take decisions with a calm head,” Ronaldo said after the match.
His comments fuelled speculation that he could retire from international football. His counterpart, Lionel Messi, made the decision to end his international career a couple of weeks ago.
Ronaldo has already announced that the latest World Cup would be his final appearance at the tournament. He will turn 42 before next summer’s Nations League finals and 43 by Euro 2028.

Jesus has taken charge of Portugal after Roberto Martinez stepped down following the World Cup exit. The new manager already knows Ronaldo well, having coached him at Al-Nassr last season. The pair helped Al-Nassr win the Saudi Pro League for the first time in seven years.
Portugal’s squad also includes Manchester United pair Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, as well as Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and Chelsea forward Pedro Neto.
