Omoyele Sowore has said he will not travel abroad for medical treatment if he becomes Nigeria’s president in 2027.
The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. Sowore said he would rely on Nigeria’s healthcare system, regardless of the illness he faces.
According to him, any health condition that Nigerian hospitals cannot treat should not send him outside the country. He made his position clear while discussing how he would conduct himself as president.
“Any sickness that I can’t treat in Nigeria when I become president should better kill me,” Sowore said.
He added that he was making the promise freely.
Meanwhile, Sowore also spoke about his family and his plans for the presidency. The AAC candidate said he would not bring what he described as “family liabilities” back to Nigeria. He did not provide further details about what he meant by the phrase. However, his comments showed his intention to separate his personal choices from his responsibilities as president.
Sowore is seeking the presidency again ahead of the 2027 election. His latest comments have drawn attention because Nigerian leaders often face questions about healthcare and medical trips abroad. For Sowore, the issue comes down to using Nigeria’s healthcare facilities rather than seeking treatment overseas.
His statement has now added another talking point to the growing conversation around the 2027 presidential race.
