Scotland pushed Morocco to the limit but were unable to find a late equaliser in Boston.
Scotland suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Morocco in their second World Cup group match, despite a determined performance and a strong finish.
Morocco controlled much of the game and looked dangerous throughout the first half. However, Scotland remained resilient and grew into the contest as the match progressed.
In the closing stages, Scotland manager Steve Clarke made a series of attacking substitutions in search of an equaliser. Ben Doak, Lyndon Dykes and Ross Stewart were introduced as Scotland committed more players forward.
The Scots created several late opportunities. Scott McTominay hit the side netting, Dykes headed over the bar, and Morocco were forced into desperate defending to protect their lead.
Scotland also felt aggrieved after two penalty appeals involving McTominay and John McGinn were waved away.
The result leaves Scotland disappointed, but the single-goal margin could prove important as teams battle for qualification through the best third-placed rankings.
Scotland now turn their focus to their final group match, knowing qualification hopes are still alive.
